This private residence was a comprehensive build-out of a duplex apartment in a new building in Delamar Greenwich Harbor. The design of the apartment intended to create unobstructed sequences and views throughout the home and of the nearby water. Spaces seamlessly unfold into each other while providing a serene comfort. A strictly defined material palette, balanced with both natural and artificial lighting help create a unique architectural language. Wide plank solid oak flooring defines the entire first floor, punctuated by an oversized opening for a sculptural staircase. The staircase was conceived as a carved wood solid, highlighting the thickness of the material in the exposed stair profile. The staircase opening delivers natural light to the space below, while the sinuous handrail provides a visual line that encircles the opening, floating atop clear glass panels. What could have been a typical Connecticut residence is reimagined as an expansive retreat.
